Museum of Dutch Modernist architecture in former church
Museum Nagele is a unique destination for anyone interested in modern architecture, urban planning, and Dutch design. Located in a former Roman Catholic church at Ring 23 in the village of Nagele, Flevoland, the museum is dedicated to the story of Nagele itselfβa model village created in the mid-20th century as part of the Noordoostpolder land reclamation project. Nagele is renowned for its innovative layout and its association with leading architects of the Dutch Modern Movement, including Gerrit Rietveld, Cornelis van Eesteren, and Aldo van Eyck.
The museumβs permanent exhibition explores the origins and significance of Nagele, highlighting the vision of architects and designers from groups such as βDe Achtβ and βDe Opbouw.β Visitors can learn about the villageβs unique grid structure, modernist buildings, and the social ideals that shaped its development. Temporary exhibitions, which change every three months, delve into related themes in art, design, and architecture, often featuring work from art academies and local artists.
Museum Nagele is open Thursday to Sunday from 13:00 to 17:00. Admission is β¬6.50 for visitors aged 14 and older, while children under 13 enter for free. The museum offers a thoughtful blend of history, architecture, and contemporary art, making it a fascinating stop for those exploring the cultural landscape of Flevoland.
