Kasteel Weldam

Kasteel Weldam lies in the Twente countryside near Markelo, in the municipality of Hof van Twente, and it belongs to a group of noble houses that give this part of Overijssel its distinctive look. It is a moated house with a long recorded history, surrounded by formal gardens, avenues and wooded parkland, and its present appearance largely reflects the seventeenth century, when the old castle was enlarged and given new wings. Because access can be limited to certain days or events, it is wise to check ahead and respect any signs asking visitors to stay on public routes. Do not expect a ticket office or cafe on the scale of a major attraction, as the appeal is quiet and rural.
