Zandvoort Beach

Zandvoort Beach is a major attraction in North Holland, offering a long stretch of sandy shoreline bordered by the coastal dunes of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. Historically a fishing village known as Sandevoerde since 1100, the town transformed into a popular seaside resort in the 19th century, aided by the arrival of the railway in 1881. Although heavily damaged during World War II when the Atlantic Wall was constructed, Zandvoort has flourished post-war, with tourism now employing more than half of the local population.

The beach is easily accessible via direct train from Amsterdam and Haarlem, as well as by bus, bicycle, or car, with ample parking available. Visitors can enjoy a variety of water sports and relax at numerous beach pavilions. A notable feature is the designated nudist bathing section, located approximately two kilometers south of the main beach, which includes several eateries. The area also offers public art, including street art and murals, adding a cultural dimension to the coastal experience.

For motorsport enthusiasts, the nearby Circuit Zandvoort hosts the Dutch Grand Prix, a significant event in the Formula 1 calendar since 1950. The circuit is a prominent landmark, and the town often hosts related fan activities and events, particularly in August. The beach itself is open to the public with no admission fees, allowing for unrestricted access to the sand and sea. The combination of natural beauty, historical context, and modern amenities makes Zandvoort Beach a versatile destination for relaxation and recreation.
