Kröller Müller Museum

Largest Van Gogh collection in Dutch national park

7.2/10
#1 of 3 in Gelderland

The Kröller Müller Museum, set in the heart of De Hoge Veluwe National Park in Gelderland, offers a unique blend of world-class art and natural beauty. Renowned for holding the largest collection of Vincent van Gogh paintings outside Amsterdam, the museum also features works by Monet, Seurat, Picasso, Mondrian, and other modern masters. The collection emphasizes movements such as De Stijl and futurism, and the museum regularly hosts contemporary exhibitions.

A highlight for many visitors is the extensive sculpture garden, which covers more than 25 football fields and showcases over 200 sculptures by artists like Barbara Hepworth, Jean Dubuffet, and Marta Pan. The garden’s pavilions, designed by noted architects Gerrit Rietveld and Aldo van Eyck, add to the artistic atmosphere. The museum buildings themselves, designed by Henry van de Velde and Wim Quist, are architectural attractions in their own right.

Visitors can explore both the museum and the surrounding park on foot or by using the free “White Bicycles” provided within De Hoge Veluwe. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10:00 to 17:00, and a day ticket covers both the museum and park entrance. Amenities include a restaurant with views of the greenery, free audio tours, and family-friendly activities. Allow at least three hours to fully enjoy the museum and sculpture garden, and consider extra time to experience the park’s tranquil landscapes.
