Vestingmuseum

The Vestingmuseum, also known as Het Nederlands Vestingmuseum, is located in Naarden-Vesting, the Netherlands' best-preserved fortified city. Housed within the 17th-century Bastion Turfpoort, the museum details the history of warfare in the country. Key features include casemates, listening tunnels, and a fortress gun on the bastion. Exhibits focus on the military past, highlighting figures such as William III and Napoleon.

Visitors can explore four casemates, with a full visit requiring at least 60 minutes. The main exhibit, Casemat Y, can be viewed in approximately 30 minutes. Entry after 16:30 is discouraged due to insufficient time. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30 to 17:00 and is closed on Mondays. Admission is accepted via the Netherlands Museum Pass. Payment is cashless; only PIN, Visa, and Mastercard are accepted.

Due to significant height differences within the historic structure, the museum is limitedly accessible for wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility. Dogs are welcome if leashed. For transportation, parking is available at Bastion Nieuw Molen (a 5-minute walk) or Abri (a 15-minute walk). Bicycle parking is available outside the entrance. The nearest train station is Naarden-Bussum, from which visitors can walk, bike, or take Bus 110 to the Westwalstraat stop.
