St. Catherine's Church
Historic Roman Catholic church and concert venue
St. Catherine’s Church (Catharinakerk) is a striking landmark in the heart of Eindhoven, standing proudly on Catharinaplein. This Roman Catholic church, dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, is a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture and serves as both a place of worship and a vibrant cultural venue. The current church replaced an earlier structure and has become an integral part of Eindhoven’s cityscape.
Visitors are greeted by the church’s impressive twin towers and intricate stonework, which make it a favorite subject for photographers and architecture enthusiasts. Inside, the soaring vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and ornate altar create a serene atmosphere, inviting quiet reflection or exploration. St. Catherine’s Church is also renowned for its musical heritage. Since the late 1980s, it has hosted the popular “Muziek in de Cathrien” concert series, drawing large audiences for Saturday afternoon performances of classical music, choral works, and organ recitals.
The church is wheelchair accessible and open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 16:30, and on Sundays from 11:00 to 16:30. Guided tours are sometimes available, offering deeper insight into the church’s history and its role in the Eindhoven community. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or music, St. Catherine’s Church offers a welcoming and inspiring experience in the center of Eindhoven.
