Singraven

Singraven is an estate on the Dinkel river in the eastern Netherlands, near Denekamp in the province of Overijssel. It combines a manor house, a landscaped park and a famous watermill, and it is one of the most attractive country estates in the Twente region. The river, which rises across the border in Germany, flows slowly through this landscape of meadows and woods and provides the power that shaped the estate's history.

The watermill is the best-known feature. A walk around the grounds is pleasant in any season, with spring blossom and autumn colour among the best times.

The estate sits in a rich countryside of footpaths and cycling routes along the Dinkel, and the border with Germany is close enough that you can ride from one country to the other along the river. A small historic structure called the Schuivenhuisje is among the nearby curiosities. Denekamp and the surrounding villages offer cafes and local food, and the region is known for its quiet farmland and nature reserves.

Singraven suits visitors interested in industrial heritage, landscape and country houses, and it is easy to enjoy with children thanks to the moving mill and the open space. Allow a couple of hours, wear walking shoes and check opening times and any tour details on the estate's website before you go. Beyond the estate itself, the Dinkel River valley is a pleasant area for slow travel. Guided tours are sometimes offered, so ask on the day.
