Museum Oud Amelisweerd

Museum Oud Amelisweerd is a hidden gem nestled in the lush countryside just outside Utrecht, offering visitors a rare blend of art, history, and natural beauty. Housed in an elegant 18th-century mansion on the Amelisweerd estate, the museum is renowned for its remarkably preserved interiors, including hand-painted Chinese wallpaper dating back over 250 years and original Dutch wallpaper from the 19th century. The estate itself was built in 1770 as a summer retreat for Gerard Godard Taets van Amerongen and has since passed through the hands of King Louis Napoleon Bonaparte and the Bosch van Drakestein family before becoming municipal property.

Today, Museum Oud Amelisweerd hosts a dynamic program of rotating exhibitions in art, science, and history, often in collaboration with the Centraal Museum and local creators. The Armando collection and contemporary art shows are displayed throughout the historic rooms, creating a unique dialogue between past and present.

The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 17:00, typically from spring through autumn. Admission is €10 for adults, €5 for ages 13–17, and free for children under 12; Museum Card holders are welcome.
