Theater De Leest

Theater De Leest is the main theatre and filmhouse of Waalwijk, a town in Noord-Brabant on the edge of the Langstraat region. It stands on Vredesplein and serves the town and its surroundings with a programme that ranges from cabaret and music to family shows and film screenings. The name comes from the leest, the wooden foot-shaped form used by shoemakers, which refers to Waalwijk's long identity as one of the great shoe and leather towns of the Netherlands.

That history shapes the whole district. From the nineteenth century, Waalwijk and the nearby villages produced shoes and leather in workshops and factories, and the Langstraat became known across the country for it.
